1  Moto Smartphones / General Discussion / Re: which firmware? on: July 14, 2008, 12:45:46 pm
2312 is older than the one you are using, so the answer is no.
I liked the 2361 because was slim and fast, but the 2388 is a complete firmware, so i would suggest the last one.
This firmware made this phone a suggested phone for me now.
2  Moto Smartphones / General Discussion / Re: Z8M or Z10? on: July 10, 2008, 11:25:42 am
Still verry dissapointed with sw/firmware of the z8, also the newer (not legaly updated) firmware.

I don't think that there is any law against updating a device that supports updating using an official software from the manifacturer :-)

The latest firmware you can find  on the net, that is a march build, is very very stable. What is strange is that Motorola is not uploading it via it's official software update channel.
A Z8 at 139 euro is a great offer, but it depends at what price the z10 is being offered.

why not ask the video uploader about it?

Because there are other ways to update the firmware that work. just look in other threads.

Running 2388 also, no issues whatsoever. No application closed for Contacts yet ever, on any firmware Wink
I'm starting to think that it may happen only when using non english software. When I had the 2312beta it never happened. With the ferrari firmware was constant. With the 2361 in 5 days nothing. With this again. i'll set the phone in english to see what happens. Maybe it happens only in italian? The guy I updated the phone to the ferrari firmware had the same problem and still has it on the ferrari.

Good find, happy the firmware from tHIS YEAR is out there lol.

Ehehe, I feel better now. The phone seems less old now.

No major issue for the moment, working fine even if I got a "program closed" calling from the Contacts, and this issue is very annoing 'cause the contacts needs to be opened again. This is not a 2388 directly related bug, other firmwares do this as well.
The ferrari did the same while i don't remeber 2361 doing this.
It seems to me that 2361 was a little bit faster. It's just feeling, but the phone runs fine, better then the older firmwares.

Since it is a complete firmware (all languages and content) it issuggested for the people who has a very old firmware, expecially pre 2312.

Just flashed the 2388 firmware. It's a complete "default" firmware, but finally a recent version. The 2361 was great, i'll test this for some time and let you know.

9  Moto Smartphones / General Discussion / Z8 build 2361 firmware on: June 01, 2008, 09:19:31 pm
Made a new thread to get more visibility.

I found a build 2361 and decided to flash my phone. I was in the mood since a friend with a Z8 came to me to update his firmware so I was "warm".

It has only english and russian language. It is what once was called an "engineering" version. It has no additional software and ha a Debug folder with these programs:
-EFEM
-eshell
-MotorolaKeyTest
-QfileMan
-QikCore Test
-System Profiler
-UiConfigTest

I'm not going to run any of these. It starts with more than 70Mb of free space (less languages and no bundle).
It connects to the Motorola software correcly. I've done a phone call and the quality was perfect.
and listen to this : when typing an SMS the "no-Caps" bug is gone!I can finally type without having to make the first word after the . a cap.
The phone seems very fast. Tried only SMP and linkboy and they work.
More info on the firmware:

Internet runs fast, installed some programs (Opera Mini, Gmail, Linkboy, SMP, Shozu, Google maps) and had no problem.
The phone is faster, and "slim": no additional content, no games, no wallpapers etc.
Made a video call and worked great.
Like I said the Caps bug is gone, but like the 2312beta that didn't have Italian language every time i reboot I have to select italian again in the Text input setting.
I'm really liking this firmware

I'm going to configure internet and try Opera Mini so see how it runs.

I've been playing a bit with the phone, not the games because there is no game in this firmware.
It seems that all is working, and working great. Internet runs fast, bluetooth is ok, media player seems a little more fast (not the picture part).
I have not sync'ed the contacs because with the previous firmware (ferrari) I was having a lot of "Program Closed" when pressing the call button fron the contacts. i'm going to write one by one the contacts I need.

I don't think that you have many alternatives to bring it to motorola service. And since that they only need to reflash it i don't think that their competence is a problem.

13  Moto Smartphones / General Discussion / Re: S/W Versions on: May 10, 2008, 06:20:12 pm
In the last month my phone "broke down' 3 times. Everytime when i get it back they say the renewed 'a' part. sw version is still not updated on my phone. It's now in the shop aigain, where they are trying to convince motorola to give me a new one, or a refund. I know there is a new sw version to download and install with rsd lite. But i just don't want to do that. With my luck windows will chash, and then i'm in a world of shit.

Motorola support dissapoints me a bit.....

My first Z8 was defective and since it was very new, and a branded version, the motorola center changed the whole package (with me gaining a 512mb microSD  Grin ). The new one was just fine, but without a software update i was having major headaches in 3G mode. So you shoud insist for a new phone, and if does not come with an updated software flash the ferrari firmware, and you will be satisfied.

For who is manually updating the firmware: this phone "seems" to have a "learning curve" about the battery, so if after the flashing the battery lasts less it may be that it has to learn again. And if you had a firmware where Shozu wasn't already present know that it is always running now, so if you don't need it you must "kill" it with SMP. (my first TIM branded firmware didn't had Shozu).

Hmm, very bad, but the can surely repair you phone.
I flashed the ferrari and worked fine.
Flashing is never safe, but i0ve flashed a lot of phones and never had a problem.
15  Moto Smartphones / General Discussion / Re: 8gig microSD card in Z8 on: May 06, 2008, 02:54:11 pm
Try formatting it in a card reader then it should not need any format by the phone.
