1  Moto Smartphones / Support / Re: New Firmware? on: October 27, 2008, 10:25:14 am
Moto internal politics were to blame, not knowing what they wanted to do with the Z8 line (UIQ phones) and other related issues.

There won''t be any official firmwares for the Z8 now (2393 was the last ever produced from memory); there might be some Z10 firmwares, but that''s unlikely as they''ve closed the office that did most of the testing.

As to whether we''ll ever see any new UIQ phones from Moto - don''t hold your breath Sad

The following website has a link for the update from Motorola.
Has anyone tried it yet?

That news story is actually a rip and re-post of our original news story about firmwares, which unfortunately turhed out not to be correct, as Moto pulled the plug almost as soon as they told us it was live. Here''s the link to our news item about it: http://www.motosmartphones.com/news/z8-firmware-updates-go-live.htm

I''m still using 2388 - apart from very random crashes (usually when receiving a call, odly) it''s pretty stable. 2393 was the last Z8 firmware released (if released is the right word) by Moto, as they''ve now pretty much completely given up on the Z8. (and not much seems to be going on with the Z10 either)

I have used an X on all the major UK networks, using GPRS and CSD WAP settings.

The quickest way to get the settings is to go to Nokia''s online settings configurator and select the 3650 or 3660 as the phone model.

...and the lead article on the front page!
6  Moto Smartphones / Support / Re: Motorola z8 Mobiclip on: July 21, 2008, 07:46:11 pm
There is NO converter available to convert files into Mobiclip format. This is because Mobiclip is a copyrighted content viewer.
7  Moto Smartphones / General Discussion / Re: which firmware? on: July 14, 2008, 01:29:29 pm
I used 2312 for a long time with no issues, but 2388 is a much better firmware than 2312 is - I'd recommend updating to that one.

I found RSD Lite 4.2 at this URL: http://www.motorolafans.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=9804&d=1211353238 - it worked fine for me

Well I've finally got round to updating mine to 2388 after months of running development versions... I've got to say it's even better than the previous version I was using, and that in itself was pretty damned good.
10  Moto Smartphones / General Discussion / Re: Z8M or Z10? on: July 01, 2008, 12:54:35 pm
The Z8M does NOT have 4GB memory internally, that's an error in the translation of the press release. It means that the phone supports 4GB memory cards, with support for 32GB cards once they become available.

I would go for the Z10 - the firmware on the Z10 is a vast improvement on even new Z8 firmwares as it's built on a newer version of UIQ. The Z10 also has a much better camera than the Z8.
11  Moto Smartphones / Support / Re: New Firmware? on: July 01, 2008, 12:52:06 pm
There's no FOTA updates available publicly. What the video shows is someone with access to Motorola's internal testing server using that to download a firmware update.

No "consumers" or public have access to this server
12  Moto Smartphones / Support / Re: Icons Menu on: June 26, 2008, 04:30:04 pm
Because those themes came from UIQ and show generic icons. When applying the theme, the default application icons will always be used, as these are NOT stored within the theme, but within the application itself. This is simply how UIQ works.
13  Moto Smartphones / Support / Re: Icons Menu on: June 26, 2008, 09:37:24 am
You can not change the icons within menus on the Z8 or Z10 (or any UIQ3 phone) without hacking the individual application's resources
14  Moto Smartphones / Support / Re: Z10 - Application Password Protection on: June 23, 2008, 09:26:38 am
This function does not exist in any of Motorola's UIQ based phones, so neither the Z8 or Z10 will be able to password protect your messages.
15  Moto Smartphones / General Discussion / Re: z8m on: May 02, 2008, 08:48:02 am
Z8m runs UIQ 3.1 the same as Z8, just a slightly newer software build than you'll see on some UK variants.
