Z8 firmware updates available? - YES, but not quite yet Print
UPDATED: We're hearing rumours, from various sources, that there are actually some firmware updates available for the Z8 for users to download and install at home!

So far, no one has been able to confirm these rumours, or indeed make the update procedure actually work, but we're reliably told that this is something worth keeping an eye on, as even if they're not live yet, Z8 updates should be rolled out using this method very soon...

The question everyone is probably now asking is "how do I do this update thingy?" - here's the lowdown:

  1. Download the Motorola Software Update program.
  2. Install the program, restart your PC, then run the program.
  3. Connect your Z8 to your computer using USB and see if the software update program recognises your phone.
To get your phone to be recognised, it seems you have to enable the "modem" profile in USB settings - the program will then read your phone's IMEI number correctly, but currently doesn't know the phone model or firmware version.

We have been told that this is due to change in the next few weeks, when firmware updates for the Z8 will FINALLY be rolled out to the public.

Unfortunately, there's no news about OTA (over the air) updates yet :-(

2312 is newer than 2283 (the higher number is always a give away), so that\'s the newest firmware. Unfortunately it\'s only available on phones which have been shipped directly by Motorola.

And some comments get deleted if the language or usefulness of the comment is questionable.

No, there is no update yet. Unfortunately we don\'t control Motorola (things would be very different if we did), so all we can do is to keep waiting... our initial information was obviously a bit inaccurate, but that\'s the price we pay for letting you know things as fast as we can :(
