Motorola demo concept handset |
|
At the Smartphone Show, currently taking place in London, Motorola are showing off a concept handset, based on the Z8, but with some very interesting software changes.
The handset, which we're told is based on the Z8 hardware, has a slightly re-designed user interface, with built in video editing software that allows you to capture, edit, combine, transition and post videos to the internet directly from the handset.
There have been some hardware changes too - the camera on the concept phones is a 3.2MP unit with autofocus, and we're glad to say it seems to work very well. UI enhancements on the handset show that one of the largest, most common, complaints about the Z8 has been addressed - the cancel or back key now deletes things, as many first time users would expect it to. Other enhancements to the UI include the integration of a system wide "send to" feature for direct posting to Flickr, YouTube etc; a reduction in the number of keystrokes needed to perform some tasks, and a vastly re-designed camera interface.
While it is being made very clear that the device on show is a concept, which may or may not resemble a future handset, (and so we're not allowed to take pictures of it, although one can be found here) it can be summised that at least some of what we're seeing may make it into a future firmware release, or a future UIQ handset, such as the upcoming, but still un-announced Z10.
