Z8 firmware updates go live!
UPDATED: We've just received word from one of our readers, who's obviously been keeping a keen eye on things, that Motorola have FINALLY released a public firmware update for the Z8.

To update the phone, you'll need to download Motorola's software update tool, available on their website or in our downloads section.

Once downloaded, install the application then connect your Z8 by USB cable. (the phone is only detected by the software update program when in USB Modem mode) You should now see an updated firmware available for your phone.

UPDATE: It seems Motorola have killed their website, either because people are actually going there for once, or because they've deliberately taken the site down. However, the update software is still available from our Downloads Section

(sorry, no screenshots at present, as all our Z8s are running updated firmware anyway)

Make sure your phone is in MODEM mode, otherwise it doesn't get recognised by the software.

I set phone to Modem mode and it was finally recognized. But German and UK Motorola homepage say that a new firmware for Z8 and Z10 is due to be released in February. Isn't this month February?

Maybe that will help you.

Hmm, removerd the software, reebooted xp, reinstalled software, driverpack updated automaticly, reebooted xp,started software, connected z8 in modem mode, and still nothing happens. I've been waiting for more than 10 minutes now. Looks like i'm not doing anything wrong, right?

Found the problem. I normally run vista home premium 64 bit, and for some devices likemy conon scanner i also use xp pro because a lack of drivers for vista. In xp i don't have all drivers installed of my hardware. Just like my webcam. Unplugged the cam and the update program found the phone!

Isn't life great? No it's not, because the following message was Żou already have the latest software" :@

I think that simply the new firmware hasn't been uploaded yet. So we all have to wait and try

Yes, I assume, too, that the new SW is not up, yet. However the message in Germany says that updates will be available in February. ??
