UPDATED: As originally reported by Mobile Phone Development blog, Motorola have dumped UIQ (and Java-Linux) and will not be producing any more UIQ based phones. Motorola will focus on Android, Windows Mobile, and own P2K platform for low-cost handsets. Will no longer support Symbian UIQ or own Java-Linux platform. Consolidation of platforms should reduce expenses on OS development."

Here we are, aproaching the end of the second day of the Symbian Smartphone Show in London, so what's been the news and buzz of the show this year?

In a "keep the developers thinking we care at all costs" move, SonyEricsson have just announced that their first Symbian Foundation based phone will be available in the second half of 2009 (Q3 2009). And the good news is you can develop for it now, using the, um, S60 SDK :-)

Here at Symbian's Smartphone show today in London, SonyEricsson tapped yet another nail into UIQ's coffin by publicly saying "UIQ didn't attract the operator, manufacturer or consumer interest needed to stop it failing", so their stance is pretty clear. However, what is Motorola's view on the future? Read on to see what we found out...
