Documents to Go v4 released - Office 2007 file editing added Print

Dataviz have just let us know that they've released version 4 of Documents to Go for UIQ3. The big improvement in this version is full support for viewing and editing Office 2007 documents, something which was not previously available in Documents to Go.

UIQ to lay off 200 staff Print

A report by BLT.se today indicates that UIQ intend to lay off 200 staff, in the wake of earlier anouncements of Nokia buying Symbian. Currently the majority of the 375 staff are employed in the Ronneby offices, with the balance of staff in two foreign offices in London and Budapest. These offices will probably close. Further details will be announced by UIQ this afternoon.

Today's anouncements of Nokia buying Symbian Ltd; the foundation of the Symbian Foundation; Nokia, SonyEricsson, Motorola & NTT DOCOMO donating their existing technologies to the foundation; and the intention to create a single, unified OS / UI platform, which will then be open sourced and free to use, mark a significant change in the Symbian, S60 and UIQ ecosystems. What will this mean to for the future of UIQ and UIQ based phones, such as Motorola's Zine range?

Nokia buy Symbian - create Symbian Foundation Print

In possibly the largest shakeup of the Symbian world since it's formation 10 years ago, today Nokia has anounced that it intends to buy the remaining shares in Symbain Ltd. making Nokia sole owner of the company. Having done that, Nokia, SonyEricsson, Motorola and NTT Docomo will contribute S60, UIQ and MOAP technologies to the newly created Symbian Foundation, for royalty free use by existing and future Foundation members.
